Marina Abramović - Rhythm 10

I don't think I've ever blogged before... I may have done when i was 14? I didn't really know where to start with this one, but this is really weird... Yugoslavian, Marina Abramović, has proclaimed herself the 'Grandmother of performance art'. Her work has spanned over three decades dating back to the seventies.

After I saw some appalling 'performance art' in Edinburgh a few months back, where someone just spoke to me about his obsession with Kate Nash and sporks, I decided to delete my negative views and search for a performance artist who may be able to inspire me to make my own? Possibly...

I discovered Marina. (not sure if 'discovered' is a little too modest a word? ) Her works are odd... scary. They make you anxious, nervous. They put you on edge. I think her life has had heavy influence on her work. She has stated that her mother never let her leave the house after 10PM until she was 29. Any performance she did in Yugoslavia was obviously before this time.

I'm currently looking into her work and life more. Will post more soon.
